Robin L. Murray, FAIA, PP, LEED AP BD+C

Robin L. Murray is a licensed architect and planner experienced is the design of sustainable smart growth through a wide range of projects and principal of rlm architect, based in New Jersey. She is currently a consultant working in coastal community resiliency planning for the Office of Coastal and Land Use Planning at NJ DEP. Prior to this, she practiced both her own firm and with others, in government as the Deputy Director of the NJ Office of Smart Growth and as an adjunct professor at Rutgers, NJIT and Rowan. Her focus has been on creating stimulating livable mixed use, multimodal communities in urban, suburban and rural context, with a special expertise in integrated net zero infrastructure for developers, government, and non-profits. One of Robin’s projects is the Garden State Park Redevelopment, a $500M, 220 acre GDP which included the creation of the complete program, buildings and site documents in four months including unanimous approval by a previously hostile planning board. The development has been featured locally by the Inquirer and nationally in both APA’s Planning and ULI’s Urban Land magazines. Her design studios on sustainable communities based in real NJ municipalities have been recognized both locally and nationally.

She was elevated to AIA Fellow for her national impact in sustainability and smart growth and currently is one of only 400 women among 2900 fellows in the world wide AIA membership of 88,000. She was recognized by the NJ State Senate and General Assembly for leadership in architecture, planning, government and community service.

Robin has been active in national and regional non-profit leadership including NJ Regional Director on the national AIA board, past president of NJ AIA, founding board member of Delaware Valley Smart Growth Alliance, chair of the national AIA Communities By Design, and advisory committees for Sustainable Jersey and Rutgers Ctr. for Green Building. She has been an invited speaker at national conferences such as AIA, ULI, EPA, New Partners for Smart Growth, National Governors Assoc., and more recently as the lead for Team New Jersey at the H209 Forum –Water Challenges for Coastal Cities and a NJ League of Municipalities presentation on coastal resiliency.

Robin has also been a repeating juror for awards programs for AIA, EPA, ACI, National Civic League, NJ Smart Growth and Downtown New Jersey.

Robin has a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University with a minor in sustainable new town development. She also holds a Masters of Infrastructure Planning from NJIT COAD. She was an adjunct professor teaching in the program while taking her degree and continued as that and principal investigator on several grant initiatives based on her studios.
